Rustenburg Girls’ High welcomed back alumna Hlubi Mboya-Arnold E95, a celebrated actress and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, as a guest speaker. Hlubi shared fond memories of her time at Rustenburg where she actively participated in sports, music, drama and debate which shaped her vibrant personality.
Her journey from Langa township to Rustenburg Girls’ High laid the groundwork for a remarkable career. Initially aspiring to become a South African Ambassador of Foreign Affairs, she pursued acting in Johannesburg. Despite challenges, her determination led to a decade-long journey in the industry.
In a significant recognition, Hlubi received the prestigious Palmam Meruit Award from the school. The Palmam Meruit Award, rooted in the Latin phrase “Palmam Qui Meruit Ferat” (Let whoever earns the reward, bear it), celebrates the hard work, triumph, and dedication of our alumnae. Through this award, we honour exceptional women making a positive difference in their communities and beyond. Through this accolade, we celebrate the dedication and impact of exceptional women like Hlubi who inspire us all with their achievements. Congratulations, Hlubi, on this well-deserved honour! Your journey is a testament to perseverance and excellence which inspires current and future generations of Rustenburg Girls Schools.
